My Social-Distancing Routine

During these past few weeks of social distancing, I have been busy with online classes and writing. It is super important to me to keep a sense of normalcy. In order to do this, I try to follow the same routine every day. Here is a quick glimpse in what my daily schedule looks like:

8-9am: Wake up. I usually wake up around this time to make sure that I have a productive day. I discovered that sometimes I actually feel more tired during the day if I oversleep. I am not a super early bird since I like to get at least 8 hours of sleep a day. I usually aim to be in bed no later than midnight. Especially with my online classes being held three hours ahead of my time zone, I have to be very disciplined in my wake up schedule. After I wake up, I check my email, the daily news and look at updates on my social media.

Breakfast: usually consists of a fried egg, cereal and milk or a yogurt parfait

9:30-12: Starting my day with online classes and school work. I feel the most focused and productive in the morning. I start with the subject that has the most immediate deadlines and then go in order of my classes based on priority and credit importance. There are definitely classes I spend more time on because they are more important for my major. My favorite study trick is rewriting notes. I am very visual person so I love rewriting my notes in different ways and creating diagrams to help me better understand. I also switch between typed and handwritten notes depending on the subject.

12: Lunch. For lunch, I usually have home-cooked Chinese meals prepared by my mom. Some of her specialty dishes include sweet and sour pork, dumplings, stir fry peppers and beef, and fried rice with egg.

1-3: After lunch, I finish up my school work and try to go ahead on some assignments. I also take the time to refresh myself on the news. I also take some time to check out some of my fun websites which include Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and People. These websites provide me with quick study break entertainment.

3:30: Following my work, I go on the treadmill for about 20 minutes and on my rowing machine for about 10 minutes. It is important to remain active. During college, I would walk more than 10,000 steps a day but at home it is much less. I still try to aim for about 30 minutes of exercise per day.

4: I usually try to write around this time whether that is another WordPress blog article or a journal entry. I love being able to reflect on my day and share my thoughts.

5: I have dinner with my family and we all talk about any new updates with our lives.

6-8pm: After dinner, I go on a walk around my neighborhood. It is still important to go outside every day to have some sunlight and Vitamin D. In addition, it is good to have a change of scenery. My walks have gotten shorter since it is nearing triple digit weather in Arizona. I love looking at the sunsets in my neighborhood. Here is one that I took today:

8:30-10:30 After I come back from my walk, I watch some TV and relax for the day. Some shows that I have recently finished or are currently watching include Too Hot to Handle (Netflix), Normal People(Hulu), and Keeping up with the Kardashians(Hulu). I like to end the day watching TV so I can be super relaxed by the time I go to bed.

I hope my daily routine has inspired some of you guys to try to maintain a routine during social distancing as well.
