Best Chinese Shows

As a Chinese American, I try my best to be connected to Chinese culture and practice my Chinese. One of the easiest ways for me to do this is by watching Chinese shows. I find most of these on Youtube. They are super fun and interesting. Most importantly, some of the story lines are relatable as most of the characters are similar to my age.

I am currently watching a show called “Put Your Head on my Shoulder“. It is a coming-of-age story about college students who are about to graduate and their love lives.

Here are some shows that I have fallen in love with over the years.

Best Get Going

This show is about a group of interns at Chinese companies and about their relationships to each other as they navigate work and relation ship problems. It is particularly relatable as I am nearly graduation.

Le Coup de Foudre

This is another coming of age story. This focuses on the relationship between two high school desk mates. As they overcome challenges such as family and financial problems, they fall in love. It also talks about the class differences in China along with their educational system.

My Sunshine

This is one of the most successful Chinese shows. This is about a college couple that becomes separated due to family situations. They are reunited almost a decade later and as they face challenges together, they rediscover their love for one another.

Meteor Garden

This show is found on Netflix and is based on the show “Boys Over Flowers”. It focuses on the famous F4, a group of four popular guys. This show focuses predominantly on the relationship between the head of F4 and a naive girl who is the opposite of him.

Ode to Joy

This show focuses on a group of four women who become friends unexpectedly. They all start off a neighbors and they help each other through relationship and family problems. It highlights the bond of sisterhood and friendship.

Almost all of these shows have taught me lessons in friendship or love. I have even managed to convince some of my non-Chinese friends to watch the show as well. I love watching these shows with my family.
